Leading British Muslim Visits Australia

Imam Dr Abduljalil Sajid and his wife, Mrs Jamila Sajid, are presently visiting Australia for a speaking tour until 11 November as guests of Initiatives of Change.

Imam Dr Abduljalil Sajid and his wife, Mrs Jamila Sajid, are presently visiting Australia for a speaking tour until 11 November as guests of Initiatives of Change. On 15th October he was interviewed on ABC Radio's Second Hour programme in the wake of the Pope's contoversial comments about Islam and violence in his address to the University of Regensburg (http://www.abc.net.au/sundaynights/stories/s1765502.htm) Prior to visiting Australia, Imam Sajid was a guest of Initiatives of Change in Indonesia where the Jakarta Post reported on his speech to the Islamic State University under the heading Extremism 'alien' to Islam. Imam Dr Abduljalil Sajid is a leading British Muslim of Pakistani origin. His extensive positions and involvements include Chair of the Muslim Council for Religious and Racial Harmony, Vice-Chair of the UK chapter of the World Conference on Religion and Peace and Secretary of the UK Ethnic Minorities Representative Council. His special interests include freedom, human rights, morality and social justice, inter-faith dialogue, equality and responsibility. He is the author of several books and the editor of "Why Terror - is there no alternative?" He teaches a course on Islam and the Modern World at London University, is Imam of Brighton Islamic Mission and a Muslim Judge of the UK Muslim Family Court. His visit to Australia is sponsored by Initiatives of Change. Mrs Jamila Sajid is an interpreter and marriage counsellor.
