Initiatives of Change Australia (IofCA) is undertaking a tailor-made partnership in peace education with Trinity College at the University of Melbourne.
Trinity College is a residential college at Melbourne’s top-ranked university. Our Peace & Leadership Program is offered to Trinity College students over the 2020 academic year, and is designed to train and equip students in peacebuilding and culturally intelligent leadership.
The program is built on an evidence-based curriculum, and works with students of all faiths and none. Students will gather in a multicultural learning context that is built on lived community. The program was piloted in 2019, and 20 students are doing the 2020 program.
The program is for Trinity College students interested in:
- global and local peacebuilding initiatives;
- cross-cultural leadership;
- community development;
- restorative justice practice; or
- humanitarian work
Program structure and duration
The Peace & Leadership Program is structured around University of Melbourne semesters, making it easy to undertake on a part-time basis, whilst studying full or part-time. During teaching weeks, students attend weekly classes on a Thursday evening from 5.30pm, as well as serving as interns in planning and delivering the annual Peacebuilders’ Conference and monthly Multicultural Leadership Dinners. Students will also attend two weekend retreats, which take place at the start and end of the program.
The Peace & Leadership Program is an Initiatives of Change project, delivered in partnership with the Program Director at Trinity College, Heather Cetrangolo.
Heather is a chaplain and leads Cultural Inclusion Services at Trinity College. She is a lawyer, an Anglican priest and a teacher currently undertaking her PhD, developing a Franciscan pedagogy for peacebuilding education. She was a Caux Scholar with Initiatives of Change in 2019.
