Barbara Lawler is a human resources and industrial relations professional who worked in the media industry for more than 20 years, including periods at Fairfax Media and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
Barbara joined IofC in 1970 as a full-time voluntary worker in Europe, India and Australia. She has worked in various roles with IofC, including secretarial, communications and outreach roles with young people, as well as organizing conferences and seminars. She has been involved in change and restructure processes, especially in the media industry, where she worked from 1985-1991 as an Industrial Officer with John Fairfax & Sons Sydney, publishers of the Sydney Morning Herald, Australian Financial Review and The Age, and from 1991-2011 with the ABC as an Industrial Relations and Human Resources Officer.
She holds a Masters’ degree in Business (Employee Relations) from the University of Technology in Sydney.
Barbara’s priority is modelling the peace we want to see in the world through building bridges of trust and friendship in the region, particularly with Indonesia, Australia’s nearest neighbour and the biggest Muslim country in the world. She currently mentors several people in Indonesia, as well as in Australia.
